The accommodations in the area are of many levels and for all budgets. From 15 US dollars a day per person in a hostel, to simple and clean hotels of 50 US dollars for a double room per night. Also there are the nice and fancy “Boutique Hotels” in the south of Tulum and downtown Playa de Carmen, from 100 to 250 US dollars or more for a suite.
We strongly advise to consider the small hotels (fancy or not fancy) of Playa del Carmen, if you want to enjoy the city and the night life; or in the Akumal and Tulum areas, with more privacy and the closeness of the wonderful beaches and reefs.
We also advise so avoid the big “all inclusive” hotels that have been so harmful to the area, to the environment and to the people. These places keep their guests captive and away from our culture and nature.
