Diving certification requirements
- For the traditional cavern cenote diving and for the regular ocean dive trips in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, we ask to our divers to have at least an Open Water certification, one star, basic level or any equivalent of any association of any country in the world. Anyway the guide might make a few questions to the diver before going to the water to be sure that he or she is qualified to perform a certain dive. It is important that the inexperienced diver has made any kind of diving in reasonably close dates prior to a cavern or a deep dive.
- For the dives in Angelita, The Pit, Nohoch Na Chich and the third version of Tankah we need at least an Advanced Open Water certification, two Stars, second level or equivalent. In case of not having it, the diver might be able to perform the dives if she or he is able to probe prior experiences in deep diving (120 feet or 35 meters) or in cavern diving. Anyway, the guide will decide before or even during the dive if it can be cancelled or suspended due to safety reasons.
- Similar criteria is applied to the diving in Maracaibo and the Devil’s Throat: previous experience in deep diving.
- For the cave diving, the diver needs to show the proper credential, which can be any equivalent of an Intro or Full Cave levels. The diving will be according to the level.
In the case of the European diving associations or from any other part of the world, with no specific specialty in caves, we can be able to perform the diving if the diver probes to be qualified in the use of technical scuba gear (double tanks) and that has performed this kind of diving previously. Anyway, the specialized guide will take the decisions according to her or his criteria, also to choose the dive tours. We strongly recommend establishing prior Internet communications for specific cases.
