Welcome

Diving the underground rivers of Mexico...

All the rivers in the Yucatan penninsula are underground.

Because of the absence of altitude in this Mexican penninsula, the abundant tropical rain water of the area flows very slowly to the coasts. This water feeds permanently our fantastic systems.

Due to its unique geology and geographic situation, the Mexican Caribbean coast is the area of the world with more underground rivers. The Mexican State of Quintana Roo and specifically the area between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, is considered the “Himalayas” of the underground river systems of the planet.

A long time ago, these river systems suffered collapses in some places of the roofs. These collapses are known in the area as “cenotes”. These special places are the windows of the systems and used to be sacred for the ancient Mayas. The entrances of what they used to call the underworld or “Xibalba”.

The diving here goes beyond reality: pristine water with more than 300 feet (100 meters) of visibility; flooded gigantic halls, rooms and tunnels completely “decorated” with stactites, stalagmites, columns and helectites (legacy of the ice ages), besides archaeological remains, ancient paints, astonishing light beams, refraction effects, sulfide clouds, “haloclines” (where the fresh and the salt water meet).

The truly silent immersion, without the noise of propellers or diving sound devices. The only sound during a dive here is the one of the bubbles.
